Barely Alive Sr Guard Earns first ever Gold Medal at MAIN

Barely Alive really covers the members of this group. Just about every member has at least one physical disability or “ailment.” The group worked hard when they had practices, but also had a lot of fun. There was a good deal of mutual respect and helping each other that went on during the season. The director, Jassmine Smith, poured her heart and soul into this group. In the end, the group became a little family unto themselves and really worked hard and supported each other whenever things went wrong on or off the floor. Winning the Gold Medal and the MAIN Championship banner means a lot to its membership who hopes this will bring out some more members interested in participating. As a member myself, I can tell you that it was a great deal of fun!!!

Alive Winter Guard Earns 3rd Place at MAIN Championships

After a late start, but a good first showing the Ladies from Alive Winter Guard finished their season with their first medal in circuit competition. Prior to this, they had won the South Brunswick Regional IRA title and place a second and third in that contest as well as the Philly Regional. The color was bronze which was terrific given eight of the 11 girls were were new to Alive. Alive Guards are very happy and proud of their IRA guard!!!

Name Change HappenedWhen

When the 2021 -2022 season began, the A guard was made up of 11 young ladies, three of whom had marched with the guard previously. We had always struggled with our name “The Light” then shortened to “Light Winter Guard”. This seemed like an awesome change to change our name so it matched the name of the church which has been supporting us. After some inquiry Light Winter Guard became Alive Winter Guards. The A guard would be known as Alive Winter Guard and the Sr guard would eventually take on the name Barely Alive. This name was suggested by one of our members, Heather, and after a vote, it was unanimous Barely Alive was born. It helps when it’s members all have some kind of physical ailments that make color guarding more challenging!

Spin Camp Reminder

Spin Camp Reminder

Camp on October 24th is just around the corner. The camp is free and an excellent way to see if you want to spend your winter performing with Light Winter Guards. We are planning on an A Guard and either a World or Sr. Guard. The youngest age is 13 for the A guard, and then we go up from there. As Alive Church sponsors us, our dues are low. We are inclusive, welcoming, drama-free, and friendly. So if you have not found a winter home yet, give us a try!!

2020-2021 Light Winter Guard A Cast chosen

Congrats to all those that were chosen to be a part of Light Winter Guard A! To say that spin camps and auditions were most unusual is an understatement. The next obstacle will be putting our show together. We had a little trouble with the video auditions because no one had actually ever done this before. We survived the newness of that to complete our cast. At this moment we are only competing in WGI virtual competitions, but that may change. What will change is not how we film but to whom we send the videos.

Again Many Congrats to all those who auditioned!! Hopefully by the time next season rolls around things will be slightly more pre-pandemic.
