The group began when the original two directors were sitting at an indoor show and started talking about how it would be cool to create a Christian winter guard. By June of 2012, The Light Winter Guard was founded. Our first year of competition was 2013 as we were finding our way. 2015 found a subtle change in the guard’s name to The Light 2.0 and the start of a new attitude. 2016, with new staff found us making finals in our circuits’ championships. 2017 saw a entirely new staff starting again and the guard opening up to students in the Lancaster County area. 2018 found us competing for the first time in a WGI regional. 2019 saw us wining that WGI regional and another subtle name change to Light Winter Guard. Now it is 2022-23, and there has been yet another name change and the addition of a Sr guard. The new name is Alive Winter Guards. The A guard is Alive Winter Guard and the Sr guard is Barely Alive. At the end of 2022 the A guard was in IRA and won a bronze medal at championships while the Sr guard, in their first season, captured the Gold medal. Both guards are excited to see where they go in 2023.

Our Mission

Mission Statement:

Light Winter Guards (Alive Winter Guards) will provide a Christian environment that is safe, nurturing, and non-judgmental, allowing students to freely be and express themselves in an appropriate manner.

Goal Statements:

Light Winter Guards (Alive Winter Guards) will provide the opportunity for students to learn responsibility not only to themselves but to others in the hope of helping these young women and men  grow into better human beings and to understand the human condition more clearly.

Light Winter Guards (Alive Winter Guards) will provide students the opportunity to learn, to share, and think about the part spirituality plays in their lives if in fact it currently does. There will be intermittent messages, and prayer as time and the season permit.  Being a Christian is not a requirement for membership. Hopefully the staff will convey there love for each and every member while supporting each member. We love no matter who or what others believe, identify as, or bring with them when they walk into Alive. Money should not be an obstacle to participation if a person really wants to participate. We only ask that each member fundraise during each fundraiser even if it is only a few dollars.

Light Winter Guards (Alive Winter Guards) will help share their personal “Light” each time they perform or are in the public eye helping all those with whom they touch the opportunity to show love and that love is within in each of us to share.

Light Winter Guards (Alive Winter Guards) will endeavor to make sure that their shows deal with some aspect of Christian thought.  Although it is not necessary to do this, usually a show can be put into those terms. This will be conveyed in various ways to be determined by the staff.

Light Winter Guards (Alive Winter Guards) will provide a place for students to go and forget the drama in their lives, have a good time, make new friends, and most importantly laugh!

Light Winter Guard has had a huge impact on my life. I find that I am constantly using the lessons I have learned in guard in my everyday life.
